Who is Ruth Kamande?

A resident of Buru buru suburbs in Nairobi who came into limelight after stabbing Farid Mohammed(her lover) 25 times in 2015 following discovery that Mohammed had been having several lovers concurrently.

She remained in custody and gained popularity in 2016 after winning Miss Lang'ata women prison's beauty contest.

She was sentenced to the death penalty at the Milimani High Court by High Court judge Jessie Lesiit on Thursday 19th July 2018. 
 "I want young people to know that it is not cool to kill your boyfriend or girlfriend instead it is cool to walk away from a relationship when it breaks down," said Judge Lesiit. 

 The judge ruled that Kamande harboured ill-motives while stabbing her boyfriend 25 times with a kitchen knife. In her defence, Kamande stated that Farid had raped her, knowing well that he was HIV-positive and that she had acted in self defence when Farid attempted to kill her.
